REGULATIONS CONCERNING PRACTICAL CLASSES IN THE DEPARTMENT OF NORMAL ANATOMY
1. There are 65 practical classes of anatomy for Medical Faculty students in winter and in the summer semester as well. For students of Dentistry Faculty respectively 60 in winter and in summer semester as well. The one class lasts 45 minutes.
2. Much of the course of anatomy is carried out in the DISSECTION ROOM (Prosektorium).
3. Smoking in the area of the Department of Anatomy, as in the whole building, is prohibited.
4. Eating and drinking in dissection rooms is not allowed.
5. Taking any photo or movie in the dissection room is strictly prohibited!
6. It is not allowed to use mobile phones in the area of the Department of Anatomy (i.e. Dissection Room, Museum, other classes rooms).
7. The practical classes start on time according to the schedule. Students being late can be not admitted to the classes.
8. Students, being in the dissection room, are obliged to wear a white lab coat and use protective gloves while examining specimens. In the case of injuries, students should immediately inform the respective teacher.
9. The students can, and are encouraged, to bring the anatomical tweezers, manuals and atlases to the dissection room.
10. To gain from the practical classes as much as possible, the students should have enough theoretical knowledge about the current topic.
11. According to the regulations of studies the presence of students in all practical classes is compulsory and checked.
12. The student has the right to miss 10% of the teaching period (3 practical classes) in compulsory courses during a semester due to important reasons without excuse notes and without the obligation to make up for the absence. Each subsequent absence in classes requires the justification and making up for the classes immediately after the cause of absence ceases to exist.
13. The student who was absent from more than 2 classes in the course included in each periodical test will be allowed to pass the required tests (as below) after distinct credit of knowledge of all missed classes in the subject Coordinator. Absence exceeding six practical classes per semester excludes completion of the semester. The student is therefore not allowed to take the credit from anatomy.
14. The course of anatomy is divided into four periodical credits (two in each semester):
o Osteology and Arthrology - I semester
o Dissecting Room part I (head, neck, upper limb) - I semester
o Dissecting Room part II (thorax, abdomen, pelvis, lower limb) - II semester
o Neuroanatomy - II semester.
15. To be admitted to completing the credit the student is obliged to pass at the teacher conducting the classes the practical part of the material, during the last practical class before the scheduled test. The practical part includes recognizing the anatomical details on the specimens, models and charts (so-called “PINS”) and knowledge of “practical issues”.
16. To pass the “pins” is necessary to recognize a minimum of 66% of details. The list of anatomical details that are obligatory for recognizing will be published separately. The knowledge of all practical issues is facultative. Students passing the “practical skills” will be rewarded with bonus (3 points), added to the written test result or in course of an oral test resulting in elevation of the final note at half of the point. The list of required practical issues will be given during the course as they arise and will be published on the Department web page. The student who failed the practical part loses the right to take a test and is obliged to pass the practical part before the retake of the test. Students who failed the practical part again are not admitted to the test at all.
17. The completing of the credit for a course is scheduled immediately after the last practical classes. The student has two terms, for passing every test (except for the situation described above).
- the first term, based on the teacher in charge decision is performed orally or as a Multiply Choice Questions test (66% of total points possible to gain is required to pass the test – counted along with bonus points).
- the retake of the credit (second term) - is performed orally.
18. In the winter semester the student, who failed to pass one or two required tests, can get conditional admission to the winter examination session, based on Educational Board (i.e. Dean, Tutor, Subject Coordinator) decision. In this situation deadline for passing missing tests in the third attempt is the first week of the summer semester. The range of material obligatory to pass conditional credit is defined by the Subject Coordinator.
19. In summer the student who failed to pass one of the tests can pass it in the third attempt in the last week of the summer semester. Failure to pass one or both the tests for this semester, the student can get conditional admission to the summer examination session, based on the Educational Board decision, after passing missing tests in the third attempt in additional term defined by Subject Coordinator. In this situation, the student loses the right to take a final examination in the first term.
20. This additional (commission) attempts to any test consists only of Oral part - Viva Voce. At the especially motivated student's request, it can be taken before the commission
21. Students who passed all required credits in the first term can receive a special bonus of raising their final grade by half a point. This only applies to the first date of the final exam.
22. Students who completed all credits on the level grade good plus (86% or more of possible to gain points) and have passed the practical exam can be examined in special early term of the exam.
23. The local winners (first three places) of Golden Scapula competitions can be exempt from the practical exam. The national winners (first three places) can be exempt from the whole exam.
24. The final exam is scheduled to the summer examination session and consists of two main parts: PRACTICAL and THEORETICAL (performed as a Multiply Choice Questions test or the oral Viva Voce – based on teacher in charge decision). Both parts of the final examination (practical and theoretical) are treated as equal, i.e. to pass the examination, at least a satisfactory mark is required in every part of the examination and the students may be admitted to the theoretical part of the examination only if they have passed the practical part.
25. The students repeating the anatomy course can be obliged (based on teacher in charge decision) to pass the theoretical part of the exam as Oral-Viva Voce.
26. The theoretical part of third attempts to the final exam (2nd retake) for all students consists only of Oral part - Viva Voce. At the student request, it can be taken before the commission.
27. Students who do not follow the regulations and do not react to the warnings can be expelled from the class. In all cases such events will be reported in students' files. In special cases, the Dean will be informed about the student's misbehaviour.

HEALTH AND SAFETY RULES FOR STUDENTS IN DISSECTING ROOM
There are some rules that are enforced for the safety of the staff and students, while others are concerned with the need for care and respect of the prosection material.
· Students are required to attend each lecture and the assigned tutorial/laboratory class unless given special permission.
· You may enter and view specimens in the Dissecting Room only in the presence of your tutor and/or during your designated tutorial/laboratory class hours. You are not permitted to take visitors into the Dissection Room. A detailed risk assessment for student activities in the Dissecting Room is located on the notice board at the front entrance . When in the Dissecting Room, you are required to:
· always put on your laboratory coat when you enter the lab. If you have forgotten to bring your lab coat, purchase a disposable coat from the staff room on the ground floor or locker room underground. Lab coats must not be worn in the hall or anywhere outside the laboratories.
· wear covered shoes with enclosed heels, never thongs or sandals.
· wear latex or vinyl gloves when touching wet specimens (gloves are available from the Union Shop).
· never eat or drink.
· never put anything in your mouth. For example, pens or pencils that you may have picked up from the table.
· avoid inhaling preservative solutions for prolonged periods. If you feel in need of fresh air, ask permission to leave the laboratory for a few minutes.
· report all accidents or incidents immediately to a staff member for assessment without exception. Injuries involving sharps or needle-stick will require a blood test as soon as possible.
